Two children from Rhondda Cynon Taf have been awarded special prizes after they were highly commended in a recent competition.
The competition opened to celebrate national sausage appreciation week last November and saw over 70,000 children from across the UK getting their colouring pens out in a bid to win the best dressed sausage.
Jared Dickson, aged 5 from Maesybryn Primary School and Lois Thomas, aged 4 from Park Primary School were recently (Feb 2010) picked along side 50 other lucky entrants to receive the commendation for their colouring skills. The prizes included some new colouring pens and a £5 gift voucher.
The primary school children were given the chance to enter the competition as part of the Council Catering Services participation in national sausage appreciation week, which saw schools across the County Borough being served delicious sausage dishes which included toad in the hole, with mash and gravy.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Catering Service reviews their menu options and consults with young people and the wider client base to ensure that the food on offer not only meets the needs of their taste buds but makes food fun and there are various options to choose from every day.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said:
“I would like to congratulate Jared and Lois on their achievements well-done!
“Staff across Catering Services are using their talent and hard work to ensure our customers receive healthy, tasty and affordable meals.
“They are continually striving to improve their menus and ensure they design and produce meals that look great, taste great and are enjoyable, all at the same time as being healthy and affordable.
“This is especially important in our schools as we fuel young people not only for their challenging school day, but also for the longer-term nutritional needs of their growing bodies.”
You do not have to be in school to enjoy any of the tasty meals on offer as the Council’s Catering Service are also responsible for the menus in the Community Meals Day Centres and Meals on Wheels service.
