STARS Awarded in Community Care.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Community Services team has some real ‘stars’ amongst them.

Two employees – Clive Holland and Caron Eaves, have recently been awarded their star units in recognition for their exceptional achievements. Star Units are an exciting new development linked to Scottish and National Vocational Qualifications (S/NVQs) that were introduced to recognise talented and motivated individuals’ higher quality of work in the workplace. These two talented members of staff had to demonstrate how they have worked in an exceptional way across a range of areas

1. Enthusiasm and a professional approach
2. Providing an integrated, ethical and inclusive service
3. Ability to communicate effectively
4. Sound knowledge and understanding
5. Ability to work under pressure unsupervised
6. Promoting rights and responsibilities.

Cheryl Stephens said: “This is a real achievement and they are our first STAR unit achievers! I would also like to compliment Lisa and Jill for their support of the candidates and the Home Care supervisors for supporting them throughout the process.

Well done Clive and Caron!” Caron Eaves, said: “I was encouraged to go for the NVQ by the Council and largely worked on my own with just the occasional visits from my NVQ assessors – Jillian Davies and Lissa Thomas. About half way through the assessors said that my work was of so high a standard that she wanted me to be assessed for the Star Unit. It was because I had done so much work towards it.” “I enjoyed working towards the NVQ and I set myself a high standard from the start even before I knew about the Star Unit. When I got the Star I was chuffed to bits. My manager was very pleased too and I’m really grateful for their support throughout.”

Councillor Mike Forey, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, said: “I would like to congratulate Caron and Clive on their fantastic achievements. Training and developing teams plays a critical part in ensuring that the services we provide are delivered to the highest standards possible.” Star Units are the way forward for people who want to excel at work and offer a means of unlocking talent as the basis for successful careers. They provide a model and standard that all S/NVQ candidates can recognise and aspire towards without any additional work or assessment. For more information on Star Units visit
